Meteorologists announce where the most snow is
Meteorologists in Lithuania report the regions experiencing the heaviest snowfall, with snow cover exceeding 35 cm in some western areas and warnings about potential inaccuracies in snow mapping.
Lithuania's meteorologists have recently revealed that certain western regions, including Raseiniai, Pasvalys, and Švenčionys, have recorded snow accumulations exceeding 35 cm, making these areas the most snowfall-prone in the country. In contrast, many other parts of Lithuania see snow cover between 15 to 30 cm, while the southwestern part of the country, particularly around Kybartai, has the least snow.
The situation has led to a relatively thin frost layer in many areas, typically not exceeding 12 to 16 cm. However, in places such as Varėna, Kaunas, and Kybartai, the frost can reach between 35 and 38 cm, indicating significant variation within the country depending on localized snow removal operations. Meteorologists have cautioned residents that the snow depth map may not fully reflect local conditions, as wind-blown snow and uneven precipitation can lead to discrepancies.
Looking ahead, meteorologists forecast light snowfall for Tuesday and Wednesday, but starting Thursday, warmer temperatures are expected to lead to a thaw, transitioning snow to sleet and rain. This shift in weather conditions suggests potential challenges for residents, particularly in managing melting snow and potential flooding as temperatures rise in the coming days.
