TCN unveils 300MVA transformer at Egbin substation
The Transmission Company of Nigeria launched a new 300MVA transformer at the Egbin substation, increasing its total capacity and bolstering electricity supply in the region.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commissioned a new 300MVA transformer at its Egbin Transmission Substation in Lagos State, which was inaugurated on February 22, 2025. This new addition enhances the substation's total capacity from 300MVA to 450MVA. This substantial upgrade is expected to improve bulk electricity availability, particularly for the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, which is critical for the local power infrastructure.
The Egbin Transmission Substation serves a vital function in the electrical supply chain, as it supports the Ekiti Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), providing power to a densely populated region of Lagos and its outskirts. The effective operation of this substation is crucial, particularly given the escalating demand for electricity due to demographic growth and increasing business activities in the area.
According to Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, the upgraded capacity will yield direct benefits for consumers in Ikorodu, Shagamu, Ijede, and surrounding neighborhoods. This enhancement of the power supply infrastructure is anticipated not only to increase reliability but also to support economic growth in these regions by ensuring that local businesses and households receive a steady and reliable electricity supply.
