TCN announces Niger substation maintenance, power disruption in four areas
The Transmission Company of Nigeria is set to conduct maintenance at its Zungeru Transmission Substation, leading to scheduled power disruptions in certain areas on February 18 and 19, 2026.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced upcoming maintenance work at the Zungeru Transmission Substation located in Niger State, scheduled for February 18 and 19, 2026. The maintenance will involve critical equipment, including transformers and switchgears, and is designed to ensure continued operational integrity. This maintenance is a planned exercise aimed at enhancing the reliability of power supply in the region.
According to Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, the maintenance activities will be carried out from 11 am to 5 pm on both days. Despite the work being done, electricity distribution companies, namely the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO), will still be able to supply power to customers connected to the functioning transformer at the substation. Load management strategies will be implemented to minimize the impact of the maintenance on service delivery.
However, TCN has warned that some areas will still experience power disruptions during the maintenance period. The maintenance is part of TCN's commitment to improving infrastructure and ensuring the stability of electricity supply in Nigeria, highlighting the ongoing challenges and initiatives in the country's power sector. Stakeholders are encouraged to prepare for the temporary disruptions as maintenance is deemed essential for long-term operational efficiency.
