Benin region faces month of 10-hour daily outages, says TCN

The Benin region in Nigeria will experience scheduled daily electricity outages lasting up to 10 hours as the Transmission Company of Nigeria carries out necessary maintenance work on the power transmission system.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that residents in the Benin region will face significant power outages over the next month due to scheduled maintenance work. Starting from February 27, 2026, the outages will occur daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. This action is aimed at allowing the ongoing restringing works on the critical Benin–Ajaokuta 330kV Transmission Line, which is essential for improving the region's power supply stability.

In a public announcement, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, Ndidi Mbah, emphasized the necessity of these works, detailing that they focus on the substations connected to the Ihovbor Power Plant. Consequently, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) will be unable to supply electricity to specific areas, including UNIBEN, Oluku, Egba, and the Ihovbor neighborhoods, severely impacting daily routines for residents and businesses alike.

TCN has assured the public that power supply will resume after 6:00 PM each day when the restringing activities will be paused. This strategic maintenance is crucial for enhancing future electricity distribution and reliability in the Benin region, but in the short term, residents must prepare for extended periods without power.
