Temperature rises even by ten degrees in six hours

The temperature in Finland is expected to rise by up to ten degrees over the next six hours, causing potential driving hazards due to icy conditions as people return from winter holidays.

According to Yle meteorologist Henriikka Heikinoja, Finland will experience a significant temperature increase today, with expectations of up to a ten-degree rise within six hours. This warming trend will start in the southern regions of the country and gradually move northward throughout the day. Saturday is projected to be the warmest day nationwide, though temperatures are still expected to fluctuate between -10 and -15 degrees Celsius, emphasizing the contrast with the recent cold snap.

As many people return from their winter holidays, the anticipated temperature rise poses challenges for road conditions. The Finnish Meteorological Institute has issued warnings for poor driving conditions across the entire country on Saturday, advising commuters to remain vigilant when traveling. Meteorologist Heikinoja highlights the significance of being cautious on the roads during this transition period, especially if travel cannot be avoided.

Despite this temporary warm spell, winter is not over yet for Finland. Heikinoja mentions that temperatures are expected to drop again next week, which is typical for this time of year. This phenomenon of rising temperatures is not unique to Finland; reports indicate that neighboring Sweden may see an even greater increase, with temperatures rising by up to twenty degrees due to the same warm air mass affecting the region.
