A Sharp Turn to Spring in the Weather - Temperatures Approaching Ten Degrees

This week, Finland will experience a notable shift towards warmer, spring-like temperatures, with potential highs nearing ten degrees Celsius, although frost will still be present at the week's start.

Finland's weather is set for a significant change this week, transitioning to warmer and more spring-like conditions. According to Joonas Koskela, a meteorologist from the weather service Foreca, the temperatures could rise to around ten degrees Celsius, marking a stark contrast to the severe cold experienced across the country just a short while ago. However, Koskela cautions that this warming trend will not be felt immediately at the start of the week, as the country will still face frost overnight.

The beginning of the week will see temperatures drop below zero across Finland, continuing to bring cold conditions, along with expected precipitation. On Tuesday, the weather is predicted to be predominantly rainy and cloudy throughout the country. For northern regions, precipitation will fall as snow, which could accumulate significantly, with estimates of ten to twenty centimeters in Lapland and Kainuu, while eastern Finland might see five to ten centimeters.

By Tuesday afternoon, the snowy conditions in the southern and central parts will shift to rain and sleet, as warming begins to take effect. The western coastal areas may experience temperatures rising to three to four degrees Celsius that day. Overall, the forecast indicates a rapid transformation towards milder weather as the week progresses, signifying the arrival of spring in Finland, albeit with a brief final display of winter at the start of the week.
