Kookmin University HUSS Global Coexistence Project Group Successfully Completes 'Sustainable Global Leader Training Camp' with the UN University (UNU), the First of Its Kind in South Korea

Kookmin University has successfully conducted a Sustainable Global Leader Training Camp in collaboration with United Nations University, becoming the first university in South Korea to implement such a program.

From January 26 to February 1, 2026, Kookmin University's HUSS Global Coexistence Project Group held the 'KMU Γ— UNU Sustainable Global Leader Training Camp' in Tokyo, Japan, in collaboration with the United Nations University (UNU). This camp introduced an experiential global education model based on fieldwork in international organizations and included activities such as participating in the UNU Future Leaders Bootcamp, attending expert lectures from international organization specialists, simulating UN Security Council negotiations, and engaging in various local outreach projects focused on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects.

The core of the program was the Future Leaders Bootcamp at UNU, where participating students learned about the structure and operational principles of the UN system, strategies for implementing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and procedures for international negotiations in the Security Council. A notable highlight was a simulation on the 'Venezuelan crisis,' which allowed students to experience the process of developing national strategies, negotiating amendments, conducting informal negotiations, and voting on resolutions in an authentic setting.

In addition to the core activities, Professor Im Hwa-jin from Tokyo City University gave a lecture focusing on sustainable urban development strategies using examples of urban planning and smart cities in Japan, followed by a field trip to the Shinjuku area for hands-on learning about urban infrastructure and public space design. The camp concluded with a poster and short-form competition that recognized outstanding participants and structured learning outcomes into content. All 30 participants expressed their high satisfaction with the program, averaging a score of 5 out of 5 in recommending it to others.
