Integration of National Chungbuk University and Korea National University of Transportation in Sight... Unified Review by the Ministry of Education on the 19th
The integration of National Chungbuk University and Korea National University of Transportation is on track as Chungbuk University has gained internal support after a re-vote.
National Chungbuk University and Korea National University of Transportation are moving toward their integration as the former received majority consent from its internal members following a re-vote held recently. The vote results showed that 69.02% of faculty and 59.67% of staff supported the integration, though only 37.21% of students favored the move. Despite the lower student support, the integration process was approved due to the majority consent from at least two of the three key groups: faculty, staff, and students.
Chungbuk University is set to submit an integration application to the Ministry of Education after deliberation by its internal decision-making bodies, including the faculty meeting and university council. The process is expected to conclude with a signing ceremony for the integration agreement that will take place at the Korea National University of Transportation on the morning of the 19th, followed by the submission of formal documentation to the Ministry, which will review the integration plan that same day.
This integration comes after a rocky path; initially, during a vote last December, all three groups at Korea National University of Transportation supported the merger while the majority of members at Chungbuk University were opposed. Predictably, this led to predictions of failure in integration talks and resulted in the resignation of the former Chungbuk University president, who had advocated for the merger. However, the two universities have since revisited and agreed on major issues surrounding the integration, thereby paving the way for this current development.
