Sokoto rolls out ₦1bn Ramadan feeding, targets 34,000 meals daily
The Sokoto State Government has initiated a ₦1 billion Ramadan Feeding Programme to provide 34,000 meals daily to vulnerable residents during Ramadan.
The Sokoto State Government has launched a significant initiative, allocating ₦1 billion for the 2026 Ramadan Feeding Programme. This program is set to serve 34,000 plates of food each day to vulnerable residents across Sokoto State, aiming to alleviate the burden on fasting Muslims and foster community support during the holy month. Governor Ahmed Aliyu officially inaugurated the program, highlighting its importance as a crucial social intervention.
In response to public demand, the number of feeding centers has been increased from 155 to 170, with each center capable of serving approximately 200 beneficiaries at a time. Governor Aliyu assured the public that the meals provided would be hygienic, well-packaged, and of high quality, with the government engaging ad-hoc staff to ensure the smooth operation of the program. The initiative reflects a commitment to supporting those in need and promoting the values of compassion and unity within the community.
This feeding initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Sokoto State government to enhance social welfare and uphold Islamic values. It not only reinforces the government's support for vulnerable populations during significant religious observances but also aligns with its efforts to improve community solidarity and enhance the quality of life for residents during the Ramadan period.
