Kano feeds over 1.1m residents during Ramadan

Kano State has successfully provided meals to over 1.1 million residents during the first ten days of Ramadan through its feeding programme.

Kano State has launched an extensive feeding programme aimed at assisting low-income residents during the holy month of Ramadan, with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announcing that over 1.1 million meals were distributed in the initial ten days. The programme, which operates in eight metropolitan Local Government Areas, is a significant initiative to support residents in need during this important time. This year's effort has expanded markedly from the previous year, with more feeding centers established to reach a wider audience.

The initiative has seen the establishment of 115 approved feeding centers, up from just 95 last year, each distributing around 1,000 food packages daily. The Chairman of the programme, Sheikh Ahmed Tijjani Auwalu, emphasized the importance of hygiene and quality standards in food preparation, reflecting the state's commitment to ensuring that the meals provided meet safe standards for consumption. The programme's success has been lauded by state officials, who are keen to maintain high standards during service delivery.

Furthermore, the programme not only addresses immediate food insecurity among the poorest ranks of Kano's population but also fosters a sense of community and support during Ramadan. By employing local food vendors and suppliers in the process, it serves as a dual mechanism for poverty alleviation while reinforcing social responsibility within the region. The positive reception of the initiative indicates a strong commitment from the governor's office to enhance welfare provisions for vulnerable populations during festive periods.
