Kano begins Ramadan food distribution, sets up 2026 feeding committee
The Kano State Government has initiated a food distribution program for Ramadan, establishing a committee to oversee its execution.
The Kano State Government has launched its 2026/1447AH Ramadan Feeding Programme, aimed at providing food to vulnerable residents during the holy month of Ramadan. The initiative, marked by the distribution of food starting from February 19, 2026, is rooted in the government's commitment to alleviate the difficulties faced by the less privileged during this significant period of fasting. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf emphasized the importance of this program in supporting those in need, thereby enhancing community solidarity and welfare.
Furthermore, a dedicated committee has been appointed to manage the distribution efforts effectively. This committee is tasked with ensuring that the food reaches the intended beneficiaries across 115 designated centers in the eight metropolitan local government areas of Kano. The governor's spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, confirmed the establishment of this committee and highlighted that its members are urged to perform their duties with integrity and accountability, reflecting the governmentβs focus on transparency in humanitarian efforts.
The commencement of this feeding program not only underscores the government's proactive approach to addressing food scarcity during Ramadan but also fosters a spirit of generosity and community support during the holy month. The initiative is expected to alleviate the hardships of fasting for many families, contributing to a more inclusive and supportive atmosphere within the state as residents come together to observe this religious occasion.
