A tragic accident occurred on Thursday night in Paraná, Brazil, when a tourist bus overturned while traveling on the BR-277 road towards Paraguay. The bus, which had departed from Balneário Camboriú in Santa Catarina, was en route to Asunción, the capital of Paraguay. According to reports from the Fire Department, the accident happened around 8:20 PM at kilometer 255 of the highway. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while navigating a curve, leading to a collision with an embankment before the bus flipped over.
Emergency responders, including the Via Araucária concession company, Mobile Emergency Service (Samu), and the Federal Highway Police (PRF), rushed to the scene to assist the injured. Of the 21 people injured, two were reported to be in serious condition and had to be extricated from the wreckage of the bus. A total of 15 injured individuals were transported to the Pronto Atendimento facility in Irati, while six others were taken to Santa Casa hospital in the municipality, underscoring the severity of the situation.
The bus had left the coast of Santa Catarina around noon, with an expected arrival time in Asunción set for 8 AM the following day. This event raises concerns regarding road safety in Brazil, particularly on routes frequented by tourist buses, as such tragic incidents can have a profound impact on both families affected and the broader community, necessitating further scrutiny of travel regulations and vehicle safety standards.
