Accident between bus and truck kills driver and leaves seven injured on BR-116, in Greater Curitiba
A tragic accident involving an interstate bus and a truck on BR-116 in Greater Curitiba resulted in one death and seven injuries.
In a severe accident early Wednesday morning on BR-116 in Campina Grande do Sul, Greater Curitiba, one person lost their life while at least seven others sustained injuries. The crash involved an interstate bus operated by Viação Penha and a truck, which was reportedly stationary on the roadway. The auxiliary driver of the bus was identified as the deceased.
The incident transpired around 5 AM when the bus, traveling from Rio de Janeiro to Blumenau, encountered the truck obstructing the road. The bus driver was unable to swerve in time, resulting in a collision with the rear of the stationary truck. Reports indicate that the bus was carrying 38 passengers along with two drivers at the time of the accident, emphasizing the potential for a much higher casualty count had the collision been more severe.
Emergency services, including the Federal Highway Police (PRF) and the concessionaire Arteris Régis Bittencourt, were deployed to the scene to assist the injured and investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. This tragic event underscores the ongoing safety concerns on Brazilian highways, particularly involving large vehicles, and raises questions about measures that can be implemented to prevent such incidents in the future.
