Bus accident with two deaths on BR-251 went off the road in a straight stretch, says PRF

A serious bus accident on BR-251 in Brazil resulted in two fatalities and ten injuries, prompting an investigation by the Civil Police.

A tragic bus accident occurred on Sunday (8) on BR-251 in Grão Mogol, Brazil, leading to the deaths of two individuals, identified as 60-year-old Evirânio Gonçalves da Silva and 77-year-old Maria Zinete de Jesus, who were related. According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the bus, which was traveling from São Paulo to Pernambuco, left the road in a straight section. Eyewitnesses report that the two victims were seated together and, at the time of the accident, were struck by a tree that fell due to the impact.

In total, ten other passengers sustained injuries and were promptly assisted by the Mobile Emergency Service (Samu) and the Fire Brigade, before being transported to hospitals in Montes Claros and Francisco Sá. The company operating the bus, Neném Turismo, is currently under scrutiny, and a Civil Police inquiry has begun to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. So far, there has been no evidence of mechanical failure, which raises concerns about safety protocols and the condition of the vehicle, prompting calls for a thorough review of transportation regulations.

As the investigation unfolds, the incident has sparked discussions about road safety measures on Brazilian highways, particularly for public transport vehicles. With an influx of holiday travelers and increased bus traffic, it underscores the need for heightened safety standards and more rigorous vehicle inspections to prevent such tragedies in the future.
