Four people involved in car accidents on Wednesday

In the past 24 hours, Latvia recorded 162 traffic accidents resulting in injuries to four individuals, primarily in the Riga region.

Over the last day, Latvia witnessed a total of 162 traffic accidents, with four people sustaining injuries as reported by the State Police. The Riga region experienced the highest incidence of accidents, amounting to 101, three of which resulted in injuries. Other regions reported significantly fewer incidents, such as 18 accidents in Latgale without any injuries, and 17 in Kurzeme with one person injured.

Furthermore, on Wednesday, six drivers were stopped for operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, leading to criminal proceedings in five cases. This indicates that these drivers were either heavily intoxicated or had no valid driving licenses while being under the influence. In total, three of these intoxicated drivers were caught in the Latgale region, with additional cases in Kurzeme, Riga, and Vidzeme.

In terms of overall traffic regulation, law enforcement identified 462 administrative violations within the 24-hour timeframe. This included 154 incidents related to speeding and two cases of aggressive driving, highlighting ongoing issues with road safety in the country and the efforts by authorities to address drunk driving and speeding offenses.
