In Latvia, one person has died and four others have been injured in traffic accidents, with a significant number of incidents occurring in the Riga region.

In the past 24 hours, traffic accidents in Latvia have resulted in the death of one person and injuries to four others, including two pedestrians and one cyclist, according to the State Police's compiled information. Overall, 130 traffic accidents were recorded nationwide, with four involving casualties. The majority of the incidents occurred in the Riga region, where 70 of the accidents were reported, resulting in injuries to four individuals.

During the same period, law enforcement apprehended eight drivers for operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol. Criminal charges were applied to five of these drivers, while three faced administrative penalties. This highlights ongoing issues related to road safety and the impact of intoxicated driving on public safety, as authorities continue to address and enforce traffic regulations across the country.

Additionally, a total of 517 administrative violations of traffic rules were recorded, including 172 cases of drivers exceeding the speed limit. These numbers indicate a concerning trend in traffic safety, particularly in urban areas, and underline the necessity for continued public awareness campaigns and stricter enforcement to mitigate such incidents in the future.
