A fire in Vilkaviškis left two individuals injured, including a person with disabilities, who were both treated for smoke inhalation.

On February 10, at approximately 4:51 PM, firefighters from Vilkaviškis responded to a fire report on Vienybės Street. A caller informed the authorities that an open flame was emanating from the chimney of a single-story wooden house and mentioned that a person with disabilities was inside the home. During the call, the caller, who was also inside and coughing heavily, indicated possible smoke inhalation. Upon arrival, firefighters found the house filled with smoke, with a sofa, armchairs, mattresses, and blankets smoldering in the living room and kitchen.

Around 4:57 PM, firefighters managed to rescue the disabled individual, a 62-year-old man, who was conscious but suffering from smoke poisoning; he was taken to a medical facility for treatment. Another man, aged 28, who had exited the building on his own, also exhibited symptoms of smoke inhalation and was subsequently transported to the hospital. The fire caused significant damage to the living and kitchen areas, including burned furniture and smoke damage to the walls and household items.

Police arrived at the scene and secured the premises by sealing the front door of the house. The incident highlights the risks associated with household fires, particularly concerning vulnerable individuals, and underscores the importance of timely emergency responses to such emergencies.
