[Breaking] The Joint Investigation Team is questioning former lawmaker Lim Jong-seong over allegations of receiving money from the Unification Church
The Joint Investigation Team in South Korea is investigating former lawmaker Lim Jong-seong regarding allegations of receiving funds from the Unification Church.
The Joint Investigation Team, led by prosecutor Kim Tae-hoon, is currently questioning former Democratic Party lawmaker Lim Jong-seong as a suspect regarding allegations of corruption linked to the Unification Church. The investigation began on the morning of the 11th at the Seoul High Prosecutor's Office, where the focus is on whether Lim received money from the Unification Church to facilitate certain political resolutions.
Lim is accused of receiving 30 million won from the Unification Church in 2020, prior to the 21st National Assembly elections. Documentation within the church, specifically a report for leader Han Hak-ja, mentioned that in November 2017, Lim assisted in changing the name of the Unification Church-affiliated World Peace Tunnel Foundation to the World Peace Road Foundation. This link raises significant concerns about the influence of religious organizations in politics and the ethical implications surrounding such financial dealings.
Prior to the establishment of the Joint Investigation Team, a special investigation unit from the National Police Agency executed a search warrant at Lim's residence in December of last year, indicating a serious ongoing inquiry into his financial interactions with the church. This heightened scrutiny reflects broader issues within South Korea regarding political corruption and religious influence in governance.
