Snowstorm Hits Finland – Up to Decimeters of Snow Expected
A severe snowstorm is expected to bring significant snowfall in Finland, particularly in southern regions starting Friday and spreading northwards through the weekend.
Meteorologists in Finland are warning of a severe snowstorm that could deliver up to thirty centimeters of snow in some areas, leading to hazardous driving conditions. The storm is set to start affecting southern Finland on Friday, with heavy snowfall projected to spread to Central Finland on Saturday, and then to North Ostrobothnia. Foreca's meteorologist, Ilkka Alanko, has remarked that local accumulations might reach as high as thirty centimeters, although a more widespread expectation is between ten to twenty centimeters.
The impending snowstorm brings not only heavy snowfall but also challenges such as icy roads and frozen windows, increasing the danger for drivers. Alanko noted that the snow will be so heavy that not all roads may be cleared in time, and visibility is likely to be poor. Meteorologist Eetu Rimon pointed out that conditions will be particularly bad on Saturday, and there could still be some accumulation on Sunday as well.
Given the severity of the forecast, residents are urged to reconsider travel plans this weekend. The potential for severe weather and difficult conditions could significantly impact transportation and daily life for many in the affected regions, highlighting the importance of staying informed about weather developments during this stormy period.
