Such frost measurements are hitting Finland
Finland is experiencing significant snowfall, particularly in southern regions, with some areas receiving up to 35 centimeters of snow.
Finland is currently under the grip of winter weather, which has brought notable snowfall across the country. Since Wednesday, southern Finland has been blanketed with snow, culminating in a clear morning on Friday after the last flakes fell Thursday evening. According to meteorologist Joanna Rinne from Foreca, regions in southern Finland have accumulated approximately 8 to 10 centimeters of snow in just two days, making for a visibly transformed winter landscape.
Key areas experiencing heavy snowfall include Helsinki-Vantaa Airport and Espoon Tapiola, both reporting 35 centimeters of snow. In northern Lapland, snowfall is more pronounced, with Inari's Saariselkä leading the way with an impressive 78 centimeters. Other notable snowy locations include Savukoski and Sodankylä, which recorded 76 and 75 centimeters respectively. However, it is important to note that despite some regions being heavily snow-covered, the Finnish Meteorological Institute has reported that many areas still have below-average snow levels.
For example, in North Karelia, the current snow depth is around 20 centimeters, which is significantly less than the average for this time of year. As the winter season progresses, these fluctuations in snow accumulation could impact various sectors, including transportation, tourism, and local ecosystems. The current conditions highlight the variability of winter weather patterns in Finland and underscore the need for continued monitoring and adjustment to outdoor activities amid changing conditions.
