The weather is about to become dangerous: Up to 20 centimeters of snow coming
Finland is expecting hazardous weather conditions with heavy snowfall bringing up to 20 centimeters of snow this week.
Finland is bracing for significant snowfall as weather forecasts indicate an arrival of heavy snow and rain towards the end of the week. According to Foreca's weather blog, snowfall is expected to begin on Wednesday evening, particularly in the western part of the country. The most substantial precipitation is anticipated during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, with accumulations ranging from 10 to 15 centimeters in the southern regions and potentially even up to 20 centimeters in some areas.
In central Finland, snowfall will likely result in 5 to 15 centimeters, while the northern regions can expect 5 to 10 centimeters. Foreca meteorologist Joanna Rinne emphasizes that the highest snow accumulations will affect the southeastern areas of the country on Thursday. These weather events, characterized by heavy snowfall combined with thawing conditions and icy rain, are expected to lead to dangerously poor conditions across Finland.
The Finnish Meteorological Institute has issued warnings about deteriorating travel conditions from Thursday onwards, noting that driving will be hazardous nationwide, with southern regions facing particularly dangerous situations. Furthermore, the sidewalks will also become icy and slippery, posing risks for pedestrians. With such extreme weather forecasts, it is crucial for residents to prepare for significant impacts on daily activities and transportation.
