Sahmyook University Selected as 'Level 2 Healing Agriculture Training Institution'

Sahmyook University has been designated as a Level 2 Healing Agriculture Training Institution by the Seoul Agricultural Technology Center, aiming to enhance public health through therapeutic agriculture programs.

Sahmyook University, under President Je Hae-jong, has been selected as a 'Level 2 Healing Agriculture Training Institution' by the Seoul Agricultural Technology Center. This initiative comes in response to the growing societal demand for professionals who can contribute to both physical and mental health improvement through agriculture, particularly amidst increasing concerns regarding aging and mental health in the community. The Healing Agriculture qualification is rooted in laws aimed at promoting the development of therapeutic agriculture research and methodologies.

The training program at Sahmyook University will run for 18 weeks, from April 5 to July 26, and it will include a total of 142 hours of instruction, combining both theoretical and practical training. The classes will occur every Sunday, with a focus on hands-on experiences utilizing various agricultural resources to aid in stress reduction and psychological healing. The program aims not just to teach agricultural activities but to prepare specialized professionals capable of designing and operating tailored healing programs for different demographics, including children, adolescents, adults, and seniors.

The admissions process is competitive, with 40 spots available determined through a two-round selection involving document review and interviews based on criteria such as previous experience in therapeutic agriculture and future activity plans. Jeong Hyun-cheol, the head of the Sahmyook University Lifelong Education Institute, stated that this designation represents an opportunity for the university to expand its educational capacity in health, welfare, and environmental fields into therapeutic agriculture, contributing to public health and the enhancement of the agricultural sector's societal value.
