Sefa seizes a cargo of tires valued at R$ 260 thousand during port inspection in Santarém
A cargo of 182 tires, valued at R$ 260,963.52, was seized by Sefa during a port inspection in Santarém, Brazil, due to issues with tax records from the sender.
On Friday, the State Treasury Department of Pará (Sefa) conducted an inspection at a port in Santarém, resulting in the seizure of 182 tires valued at R$ 260,963.52. These tires were being transported on a tugboat coming from Manaus, aiming to reach Santarém. The inspection was supported by the Military Police of the State, which helped in addressing the operation effectively.
Upon examination, Sefa officials found that while the sender based in Manaus had indicated taxes on the shipment, the company's state registration was suspended in Pará. This raised flags about the legitimacy of the operation, particularly regarding the tax obligations tied to the transport of the goods, which were not adequately fulfilled according to state regulations. As noted by coordinator Roberto Mota, the lack of registration in the tax collection system further complicated the legitimacy of the cargo.
The seizure of such a substantial amount of goods illustrates the ongoing efforts by Brazilian authorities to regulate and enforce taxation laws within the state, especially in the context of commercial shipments. This incident highlights the need for companies to comply with local regulations to avoid legal issues and potential losses.
