Sefa inspectors seize more than 10,000 bottles of alcoholic beverages at the port of Santarém
Sefa inspectors in Santarém seized over 10,000 bottles of alcoholic beverages due to insufficient documentation during a port inspection.
On Monday, October 9, 2023, inspectors from the Coordenação de Controle de Mercadorias em Trânsito do Tapajós in Brazil seized a significant shipment of alcoholic beverages, totaling 10,400 bottles, including whiskey and brandy. The goods, valued at R$ 112,736, were being transported from a company based in Santarém to the city of Itaituba in southwestern Pará. This enforcement action highlights the ongoing efforts to regulate the flow of goods and ensure compliance with legal documentation in the region.
The seizure occurred during a collaborative operation involving the port authority and the Military Police. Upon stopping a truck carrying the shipment, the inspectors checked the documentation provided by the carrier. It was found that the seller presented a receipt of sale that lacked the proper fiscal note, which is required for legitimate transport of goods. This oversight led to the rejection of the documentation and subsequent seizure of the shipment.
Roberto Mota, the coordinator from the Tapajós branch, indicated that a Term of Seizure and Deposit was issued, amounting to R$ 60,877.44. This incident not only reflects the stringent measures taken by local authorities to combat illegal trade practices but also serves as a reminder to businesses about the importance of maintaining proper documentation to avoid legal repercussions.
