Inspection by Sefa seizes 7,000 bags of cement without an invoice in Santarém
A fiscal operation in Santarém led to the seizure of 7,000 bags of cement valued at R$ 287,700 due to lack of proper documentation.
In a significant enforcement action, the Secretaria de Estado da Fazenda do Pará (Sefa) seized 7,000 bags of cement, each weighing 50 kilograms, during a routine inspection on the Tapajós River in Santarém, located in western Pará. This operation, conducted by the Coordination of Goods Transit Control of Tapajós with the support of the Military Police, reflects the state's commitment to maintaining tax compliance and tackling illegal trade activities.
Roberto Mota, the coordinator of the inspection unit, detailed that the intercepted vessel had departed from Santarém with a total shipment of 25,000 bags of cement, accompanied by 18 invoices. Upon closer examination, inspectors determined that a significant portion of the cargo—7,000 bags—lacked the necessary fiscal documentation. The failure to produce valid invoices resulted in an Infraction Notice being issued, which includes imposed taxes and penalties amounting to R$ 98,393.40.
As a consequence of this irregularity, the seized goods will remain in custody until the legal and fiscal situation is rectified by the owners. This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by fiscal authorities in Brazil to enforce tax laws and ensure that all commercial activities adhere to regulatory standards, ultimately aiming to combat tax evasion and promote fair trade practices in the region.
