The first annual award of the Dramaturgs Association has recognized Lelde Stumbre for her play 'Durvis aizveras', which premiered in Rūjiena last year. This award aims to enhance the development of original Latvian dramaturgy and promote the creation of new works, as stated by the Dramaturgs Association. The winner was chosen through a voting process conducted by a Reader Jury composed of members from the World Latvian Amateur Theater Union and the Latvian Amateur Theater Association, as well as playwrights who did not submit works for this competition.
The voting revealed a strong preference for Stumbre’s work, as her play received the highest number of votes from readers. The award reflects a growing interest and effort towards cultivating local dramatic arts in Latvia, encouraging both new authors and innovative narratives. Another notable mention from the voting process was Lelde Jauja, whose play 'Divas uz Liepāju un atpakaļ' gained considerable attention, indicating a dynamic and competitive atmosphere within Latvian theatre.
This inaugural award not only acknowledges Stumbre's accomplishment but also highlights the significance of community involvement in literary recognition and the promotion of local talent. As more original content is created for theatrical representation, there is a potential for contributing richly to the cultural landscape of Latvia in the coming years.
