The "Dramaturgs Association" Annual Award Given to Lelde Stumbre

Lelde Stumbre received the inaugural "Dramaturgs Association" Annual Award for her play "Durvis aizveras" at the original dramaturgy festival "Pie mums martā."

On the evening of March 21, at the original dramaturgy festival 'Pie mums martā,' the first-ever 'Dramaturgu asociācijas' Annual Award was presented to writer and playwright Lelde Stumbre. The award recognizes the most outstanding work in original Latvian dramaturgy, with the winners determined by a public jury vote on plays that have been staged or published in the previous year. Stumbre's play 'Durvis aizveras,' which premiered last year in Rūjiena, won the most votes among the nominated works and has been featured in the play collection 'Cilvēksvelme.'

The introduction of this award aims to strengthen the development of original Latvian dramaturgy and encourage the creation of new works, celebrating the contributions of local playwrights. The jury comprised members from the World Latvian Amateur Theater Union, the Latvian Amateur Theater Association, and authors who had not submitted plays for this year's competition, ensuring a fair and diverse selection process. This initiative marks a significant step towards promoting theatre in Latvia and supporting the local arts community.

Following Stumbre, a significant amount of votes also went to playwright Lelde Jauja for her play 'Divas uz Liepu,' showing the enthusiasm and engagement of the audience in recognizing valuable theatrical works. The award's establishment is a positive development for the Latvian cultural landscape, fostering creativity and appreciation for original dramaturgical efforts.
