Dorian LPG: Received the dual-fuel VLGC/AC 'Areion'

Dorian LPG announced the delivery of the dual-fuel LPG and ammonia very large gas carrier (VLGC/AC) named 'Areion', which was built in South Korea.

Dorian LPG has announced the delivery of its newly constructed dual-fuel vessel, the 'Areion', which has a carrying capacity of 93,000 cubic meters. This LPG and ammonia very large gas carrier was built at the Okpo Shipyard of Hanwha Ocean in South Korea. The 'Areion' joins the Helios LPG Pool, a partnership between Dorian LPG Ltd and MOL Energia, with offices in Copenhagen and Singapore.

The 'Areion' is capable of operating using LPG as fuel, and it features a hybrid scrubber designed for closed-loop operation in ports and Emission Control Areas (ECA). This advanced design aims to significantly reduce emissions of sulfur oxides (SOx), particulates, and soot compared to traditional VLSFO fuel. Notably, the main engine using LPG is reported to reduce carbon dioxide (COâ‚‚) emissions by approximately 20%, indicating a positive step towards environmental sustainability in marine transport.

In commenting on this development, Dorian LPG's President and CEO, Yannis Chatzipateras, emphasized the company's commitment to advanced technologies and innovation in the shipping industry. The acquisition of the 'Areion' reflects the ongoing trend towards greener and more efficient vessels amid growing global concerns over emissions and climate impact from shipping operations.
