LIVE: Lozber finishes the biathlon World Cup season in the mass start distance
Latvian biathlete Lozber participated in the season-ending mass start event of the Biathlon World Cup, finishing 28th after encountering shooting difficulties.
In the mass start event of the Biathlon World Cup, only the top 30 athletes competed, including Latvian biathlete Lozber, who is significantly younger than his competitors. At just 19 years old, Lozber stands out as the youngest biathlete to earn World Cup points. During the race, he skied in a compact group but struggled with shooting, missing targets on two occasions which led him to return to the race in 28th position, trailing the leader, France's Emilien Jacquelin, by over a minute. The event marked the conclusion of the season in Holmenkollen, where the women's 12.5 km mass start was won by Italyβs Liza Vitoci, with no Latvian athletes participating. This highlights not just the competitive field but also the growing prominence of biathlon in the region where young athletes are making strides, although there is still a gap to close for local stars to reach the podium. Looking ahead, the next World Cup season is set to kick off in late November in Kontiolahti, Finland, providing future opportunities for athletes like Lozber to improve and achieve greater success.
