Mongaguá residents can request calamity withdrawal for FGTS; see what to do
Residents of Mongaguá, Brazil, affected by heavy rains can now apply for a calamity withdrawal from their Worker’s Guarantee Fund (FGTS) to help with financial aid following the damages.
In response to the heavy rains that have devastated Mongaguá, a coastal city in São Paulo, the local government has announced that residents are eligible to apply for a calamity withdrawal from their Employee Guarantee Fund (FGTS). This financial assistance is particularly designed to support families who have suffered losses due to the severe weather conditions experienced over the past months. Residents can withdraw funds up to R$ 6,220, provided they haven’t made a similar withdrawal in the last 12 months.
January witnessed three major rainstorms that greatly impacted the city, leading to numerous residents being displaced and resulting in severe flooding throughout February. The government emphasizes the urgency of this initiative as the city continues to face challenges from continuing rainfall and flooding. The administration assures that all affected residents can access this benefit, which illustrates the municipality's commitment to supporting its citizens in times of crisis.
To apply for the calamity withdrawal, residents must complete their request by May 13, which can be done either through the FGTS app or in person at a Caixa Econômica Federal agency. The provision of this assistance not only aims to alleviate immediate financial burdens but also showcases the government's proactive approach to disaster management and recovery efforts in affected communities.
