FGTS for calamity: residents of two cities affected by rains in PI can withdraw up to R$ 6,200
Residents of Corrente and Bom Jesus in Brazil can withdraw up to R$ 6,200 from their FGTS due to severe flooding caused by recent rains.
In response to severe flooding caused by intense rains and storms, residents of Corrente and Bom Jesus in the state of Piauí, Brazil, are eligible to withdraw up to R$ 6,200 from their FGTS (Fundo de Garantia do Tempo de Serviço). The banking institution Caixa Econômica Federal announced that to qualify for this withdrawal, workers must have a balance in their FGTS accounts and should not have made similar withdrawals for the same reason in the past 12 months.
To request the withdrawal, residents need to provide proof of residency that shows their name and was issued within 120 days preceding the calamity decree. In cases where proof of residency is not available, a declaration from the municipality confirming that the property is located in the affected area can be submitted. Additionally, personal declarations with the worker's information may be submitted, which will then be verified against government records by Caixa. This provision aims to facilitate the process for those suffering from the aftermath of the floods.
For residents of Corrente, the deadline to request the withdrawal is May 24, while those in Bom Jesus must complete their requests by April 30, according to the addresses recognized by the Civil Defense. This financial assistance is crucial for individuals dealing with the economic ramifications of the disaster, helping them to recover in the wake of the devastating weather events.
