Lithuanian beach volleyball duo M. Paulikienė and A. Raupelytė advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating American opponents in the semifinals and overcoming Finnish players in the first elimination round.
In a thrilling encounter at the D group semifinals, the Lithuanian beach volleyball players M. Paulikienė and A. Raupelytė made an impressive showing, defeating the American team of Madelyne Anderson and Alainá Chacon with a score of 2-0. However, they faced a setback in the finals, where they lost to fellow Americans Abby Van Winkle and Molly Phillips in a closely contested match that ended with scores of 19-21, 22-20, and 6-15. Finishing second in their group meant that the Lithuanians had to start their knockout phase from the first round.
In the first elimination round, M. Paulikienė and A. Raupelytė demonstrated their resilience by overcoming Finnish players Anniina Parkkinen and Valma Prihti in a dramatic clash lasting 57 minutes, securing victory with a score of 2-1. The match showcases their fighting spirit, particularly as they rallied after losing the first game with scores of 14-21, and came back to win the next two games at 21-19 and 15-13, respectively. This victory marked a significant step for the Lithuanian duo as they progressed further in the tournament.
In the following round, they achieved another victory, this time against the Chinese team consisting of Kadeliye Halaiti and Mingli Zhou, winning convincingly 2-0 with scores of 21-11 and 21-16, thus earning their place in the quarterfinals. The upcoming match will see them face top-seeded Italians Claudia Scampoli and Giada Bianchi, creating anticipation for a thrilling encounter in the quarterfinals of the beach volleyball championship, which boasts a total prize pool of $250,000.
