The Estonian beach volleyball duo started the season in Mexico
Estonian beach volleyball players Heleene Hollas and Liisa Remmelg began the FIVB World Tour season in Tlaxcala, Mexico, where they were eliminated in the group stage.
Heleene Hollas and Liisa Remmelg, representing Estonia, kicked off the FIVB World Tour season at a Challenge level tournament held in Tlaxcala, Mexico. They entered the tournament directly into the main draw but unfortunately did not advance beyond the group stage. In their first match, they faced an Australian team consisting of Jasmine Fleming and Elizabeth Alchin, where they suffered a defeat, losing 2-0 with set scores of 21-18 and 21-16.
In their second match, the Estonian duo competed against an American team made up of Kamila Tan and Katherine Reilly, with the stakes for progression to the next round on the line. This encounter became a tightly contested three-set match, but ultimately Hollas and Remmelg lost with a scoreline of 1-2 (17-21, 21-13, 9-15), marking the end of their participation in the tournament. Despite the early exit, they are set to compete again in Nayarit, Mexico, from March 25 to 29, showcasing their commitment to continue improving in the sport.
Their participation in this tournament follows the cancellation of their initial planned event in India due to regional travel issues stemming from instability in the Middle East, leading them to start their season on new soil in Mexico. As they adapt to international competition, their performances will be critical as they seek to establish themselves in the ever-competitive beach volleyball scene this year.
