Vilnius has renovated its school gyms for over 4 million euros, benefiting around 6,000 students in various districts.
The Vilnius City Municipality has announced significant upgrades to school gymnasiums in the city, with a total investment exceeding 4 million euros. Approximately 6,000 students from neighborhoods such as Naujamiesčio, Grigiškių, Žirmūnų, Justiniškių, Fabijoniškių, and Baltupių will experience these improvements firsthand. Mayor Valdas Benkunskas emphasized the city's commitment to incorporating physical activity as a natural part of childhood, aiming to make high-quality sports facilities a standard in every school rather than an exception.
The renovations include a complete modernization of gymnasiums at several educational institutions including Naujamiesčio School, Barboros Radvilaitės progimnazija, and others. The updates featured the installation of professional flooring, upgrades to heating, ventilation, and lighting systems, as well as new sports equipment. Locker rooms are also improved with showers and additional sports spaces, providing a comprehensive enhancement to the physical education infrastructure.
Moreover, the newly renovated spaces are designed not just to benefit students during school hours but will also be accessible for informal activities after classes and extracurricular programs. This initiative aims to foster a more active lifestyle among youth and ensure that high-quality sports facilities are available for community use, emphasizing the city's focus on youth development and community engagement through sports.
