Vilnius City Municipality Will Allocate 1 Million Euros for Children's Camps This Year
Vilnius City plans to support children's summer camps with 1 million euros, expanding funding to include preschool camps, not just those for school-aged children.
The Vilnius City Municipality announced that it will allocate 1 million euros for children's summer camps this year. Traditionally, funding has only supported camps for school-aged children; however, starting this year, providers of preschool education will also be able to apply for financing. This move reflects a growing recognition of the need for camps that cater to younger children during the summer months.
Each preschool camp can receive up to 8,000 euros, with the potential for 10,000 euros if participation exceeds 100 preschool-aged children. Vilnius Vice Mayor Donalda Meiželytė emphasized the importance of organizing summer camps not only for the development of skills and competencies among youth but also for assisting working parents. The decrease in attendance at city kindergartens during summer leads to challenges for parents trying to balance work with childcare.
According to municipal data, more children from Vilnius are attending summer camps each year, indicating a rising demand for such programs as city kindergartens see a significant drop in attendance during the vacation months. This initiative is thus seen as critical for both community engagement and supporting families in the city. With the academic year ending earlier for the first graders, balancing work and childcare responsibilities is expected to become even more challenging for working parents this year.
