Vilnius aims to borrow about 70 million euros for the reconstruction of five educational institutions

Vilnius is negotiating loans totaling approximately 70 million euros for the improvement of five educational institutions, with significant backing expected from European investment banks.

Vilnius is currently in discussions to secure approximately 70 million euros for the reconstruction of five educational institutions. According to Laura JoffÄ—, head of the Vilnius Development Company, negotiations are underway with four institutional lenders, including the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB), as well as five commercial banks. The proposed funding model aims to cover 95% of the project costs through loans, with the remaining 5% being covered by the company's investments.

JoffÄ— emphasized the innovative mixed financing model being developed, which combines municipal company funds and bank resources. The upcoming phase will replicate the successful funding principles already established during the initial stages. This subsequent phase is aimed specifically at financing the reconstruction of four primary schools and one kindergarten. The negotiations with banking institutions are critical at this stage, as securing the necessary funding is essential for the timely completion of the projects.

The Vilnius Development Company anticipates finalizing the funding agreement by the end of the year, marking a significant step forward in addressing the infrastructural needs of local educational facilities. This initiative reflects the city's commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and ensuring that its institutions are equipped to serve the community better. Such investments will likely have lasting impacts on educational quality and accessibility in Vilnius.
