Quito expands restrictions for heavy vehicles on two roads starting April

Quito will extend the restrictions on heavy vehicles on two roads due to traffic accidents, starting in April.

The municipality of Quito has announced an expansion of restrictions on heavy vehicles on the Simón Bolívar and Ruta Viva avenues, effective April. This decision is rooted in an analysis of traffic incidents and aims to enhance road safety measures. Under the current regulations, heavy vehicle circulation is restricted during morning peak hours from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, a measure that has already led to a reduction in fatalities due to road accidents.

Mayor Pabel Muñoz emphasized that the extension of these restrictions is based on data-driven assessments aimed at reinforcing traffic safety, particularly during afternoon hours when traffic congestion is significant. The municipality is committed to ensuring that these measures translate into effective improvements in road safety, reflecting a comprehensive approach to managing traffic flow in the city.

As the restrictions expand, the local government intends to implement additional controls and monitor their effectiveness closely. The initiative signifies Quito's proactive steps toward public safety and underscores the importance of analyzing statistical data to drive policy decisions in urban management.
