Quito begins preventive maintenance on key northern routes: work will extend until April
Quito's municipal government has commenced a 67-day preventive maintenance project on key northern roads, affecting several neighborhoods and traffic flow.
In Quito, the municipal government has initiated preventive maintenance on significant thoroughfares in the northern part of the city. This 67-day project will focus on the Avenida de Los Narcisos and the prolongation of Simón Bolívar, covering a distance of seven kilometers that spans nine different sectors, including neighborhoods such as Pusuquí, Carcelén, and Calderón. During this period, motorists can expect significant disruptions in normal traffic patterns.
In addition to the extensive works on the primary routes, the maintenance will affect various side streets and neighborhoods, particularly in Calderón. A specific phase of the project includes modifications to road surfaces, improving asphalt conditions from the Nusti street in Landázuri to 25 de Noviembre street in El Carmen 1 over the span of 15 days. With these comprehensive improvements, residents and visitors in the affected areas should anticipate altered access and mobility challenges during the maintenance period.
The city's decision to undertake this maintenance work coincides with upcoming significant events, suggesting a strategic approach to ensure road safety and better traffic flow in preparation for future activities, such as Carnival 2026. The implications of this project highlight the municipality's commitment to urban infrastructure improvement while also navigating the inconveniences that such works typically bring to local communities.
