Quito activates 36 road controls and operations in terminals, events, and access during Carnival holiday
During the Carnival holiday, Quito will enforce 36 road controls with 711 traffic agents to manage public transportation and enhance road safety.
From February 13 to February 17, during the Carnival holiday weekend, the city of Quito is set to implement a major traffic operation involving 711 transit agents. This initiative is designed to monitor movement in public and land transportation terminals throughout the capital, ensuring safety and compliance among drivers and passengers. The operation aims to manage the influx of travelers during one of the busiest holiday periods in Ecuador.
Authorities have pinpointed routes with a history of high accident rates for focused intervention. This includes sobriety checkpoints, inspections of motorbikes, vehicle plates, tinted windows, restrictions on heavy vehicles, and measures to prevent speeding. Key routes targeted for these controls include Avenida Simón Bolívar, Ruta Viva, and the Autopista General Rumiñahui. The effort is crucial for maintaining order and safety as many people travel for vacation, particularly in areas known for traffic issues.
In addition to road inspections, authorities will check for security seals on vehicles traveling to other provinces, particularly along Maladono and the Pan-American North avenues. By intensifying these controls, the Quito government not only aims to deter reckless driving during the holiday rush but also to engage with the public about road safety practices, hoping to reduce accidents and enhance travel experiences during this popular season.
