Meteorologist Warns: We May Experience Wet Snow Tonight
A meteorologist in Lithuania has issued a warning about the possible occurrence of wet snow overnight, despite some areas still displaying winter-like conditions.
In Lithuania, meteorologist G.Valaika has alerted the public to the potential for wet snow during the night of March 20, emphasizing that while winter weather still lingers in some areas, this unusual precipitation is possible. He noted that satellite images confirm the presence of snow, particularly in forested and shadowed regions. Valaika pointed out that rain, rather than warmth, is the most effective at melting snow, which is still a factor for many localities in Lithuania.
Furthermore, fellow meteorologist Elvyra LatvÄ—naitÄ— provided a forecast indicating that the night of March 20 will primarily bring rain, particularly in the southern and southeastern regions, where light wet snow might occur in the early morning. As the day progresses, light rain is also expected to fall in both southern and eastern areas, with conditions improving into the afternoon. This fluctuation in weather reflects the unpredictable nature of spring conditions in Lithuania, which can sometimes swing between winter remnants and early signs of spring.
The occurrence of wet snow in such late March is not unprecedented, with Valaika mentioning that instances of wet snow can even happen in April or early May. This remark underscores the challenges that meteorologists face in predicting weather patterns that can change rapidly, especially in transitional seasons like spring, where cold and warm air masses frequently collide, leading to mixed precipitation.
