Weather Warning: Bad Weather Ahead
A Lithuanian meteorologist warns of severe weather conditions expected in Lithuania, including snow, mixed precipitation, and icy conditions over the next few days.
A Lithuanian meteorologist has issued a warning about an impending bout of severe weather, characterized by a multi-centered but weakened cyclone system named Alina, which is stretching through southern Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. An atmospheric front linking these cyclones will extend across the Baltic region and diagonally across Lithuania from northwest to southeast. Starting tonight, snowfall is expected, although northern and northeastern areas may remain under cold fog rather than receiving snow. Mixed precipitation and freezing drizzle are expected during the day, while the northeastern and eastern parts will continue to experience dominant snowfall, with ice concealed beneath the snow.
Tuesday is also predicted to be gloomy, following a brief respite that brings colder and drier conditions on Wednesday and Thursday. However, starting Friday, the forecast indicates more turbulent cyclones advancing from the northwest through Northern Europe towards the Baltic and Lithuania. Following a variable Friday—where temperatures may remain cold at night—warmer conditions are expected during the day on Friday, with nighttime temperatures turning slightly positive. Precipitation will be minimal, except for the possibility of rain accompanying the atmospheric front over Lithuania on Friday.
This weather warning comes as temperatures will fluctuate throughout the week, and residents are advised to be cautious due to the potentially hazardous conditions, especially with icy patches forming after snow. As the weather changes, it highlights the unpredictable nature of winter in Lithuania, urging individuals to stay informed and prepared for sudden shifts in weather patterns that can affect daily life and travel in the region.
