Kleinbergs: 'Rīgas satiksme' will not raise ticket prices due to rising fuel costs

Riga's mayor announced that fuel stockpiling by 'Rīgas satiksme' will prevent any increase in ticket prices despite rising fuel costs.

The mayor of Riga, Mārtiņš Kleinbergs, has stated that the public transportation company 'Rīgas satiksme' will not raise ticket prices in response to the escalating costs of fuel. This assurance comes from the company's strategic decision to stockpile fuel well in advance, which has insulated them from immediate price changes. Ticket prices in Riga have been stable since 2023, with a single journey costing €1.50, allowing passengers to transfer to other public transport routes within a 90-minute window.

In addition to the single journey fare, 'Rīgas satiksme' introduced various ticket options, including a 24-hour ticket for €5, a three-day ticket for €8, and a five-day ticket for €10. The standard price for a monthly pass remains at €30. Despite recent increases in ticket prices for regional bus and train services earlier in the year, the city has managed to stabilize its public transportation costs through careful planning.

The decision to keep ticket prices unchanged is crucial for maintaining public transport accessibility, especially during a time when fuel prices fluctuate significantly. Kleinbergs emphasized that this approach benefits the residents of Riga by ensuring they can continue to rely on public transport without the burden of increased fares, indicating a commitment to affordable urban mobility in the city.
