Inmet maintains alert for intense rains throughout Rio Grande do Norte
The National Institute of Meteorology has issued an alert for intense rains and possible winds in Rio Grande do Norte, affecting multiple states in the Northeast of Brazil.
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has announced that an alert for intense rainfall will remain in effect for all cities in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. This alert is essential for the upcoming days of Wednesday, November 18, and Thursday, November 19. The warning is part of a broader alert, which affects all but one of the nine states in the Northeast region of Brazil, with the exception being a partial alert in Bahia.
The severity of this alert is marked with a yellow color, indicating a potential danger, which is the lowest level of caution issued by Inmet. Higher levels, such as orange and red, indicate greater danger. The yellow alert predicts rainfall amounts between 20 to 30 millimeters per hour and up to 50 millimeters in a single day, along with the possibility of strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour. These conditions could lead to minor disruptions including potential power outages and localized flooding.
In its advisory, Inmet has provided recommendations for the population during these windy conditions, strongly advising against sheltering under trees to avoid potential hazards. As the warning affects a large area, it is crucial for residents and local authorities to remain vigilant and prepared for the weather changes in the coming days.
