The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued three alerts regarding heavy rains affecting all cities in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. These warnings are valid until the end of Friday, September 27. For 39 cities in the Alto Oeste region, a red alert indicates a danger level, expecting rainfall between 30 and 60 millimeters per hour, and possibly up to 100 millimeters per day. There are concerns about strong winds, power outages, fallen tree branches, flooding, and lightning strikes.

In addition to the red alert in the Alto Oeste, other areas in Rio Grande do Norte are under a yellow alert which is classified as a potential hazard. This warning predicts rainfall between 20 and 30 millimeters per hour and up to 50 millimeters per day, along with wind speeds up to 60 kilometers per hour. While the risks are deemed lower in these areas, it is still advisable for residents to remain cautious due to the unpredictable nature of severe weather.
