The National Meteorology Institute (Inmet) in Brazil has announced a yellow alert indicating potential danger due to heavy rainfall across all municipalities in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. This alert is in effect until 23:59 on Tuesday, October 9. The yellow alert level is characterized as the lowest danger level by the institute, which also has orange and red levels indicating higher risks.

The alert predicts rain accumulation rates of 20 to 30 millimeters per hour, with potential for up to 50 millimeters throughout the day. Additionally, there are warnings for strong winds, expected to reach speeds of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour. Such weather conditions pose a low risk of electric power outages, falling tree branches, flooding, and lightning strikes, according to Inmet.

Inmet has issued safety recommendations for residents during these weather conditions, which include avoiding sheltering under trees, parking vehicles away from transmission towers and billboards, and refraining from using plugged-in electronic devices. These precautions aim to minimize the risk of injury or damage due to the anticipated severe weather conditions.
