Inmet issues alert for heavy rains in all regions of RN
The National Institute of Meteorology in Brazil issues a yellow alert for potential heavy rains across all regions of Rio Grande do Norte.
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued a warning for heavy rains affecting all regions of Rio Grande do Norte, starting from 8:35 AM and lasting until 11:59 PM on Sunday, October 15. This yellow alert indicates a 'potential danger' level, which is the lowest on Inmet's scale, which also includes orange (danger) and red (very dangerous). Expected rainfall totals between 20 to 30 millimeters per hour, with possible accumulations of up to 50 millimeters throughout the day, combined with strong winds ranging from 40 to 60 km/h.
Inmet highlights that the risks associated with this weather event are relatively low, including the potential for power outages, falling branches, localized flooding, and lightning strikes. While these risks are present, the situation is being monitored closely to ensure public safety. The meteorological agency advises residents to take precautionary measures during such weather conditions, prioritizing personal safety and being aware of heat advisories.
To mitigate these hazards, Inmet has recommended safety precautions such as avoiding sheltering under trees due to possible falls, remaining indoors during heavy winds, and being cautious when driving. Even with the alert indicating a lower severity, public awareness and preparedness are essential to minimize the impact of the predicted severe weather on daily activities and community safety in the region.
