Group suspected of using Manaus airport for drug trafficking is targeted in Federal Police operation

The Federal Police launched Operation Rastreio in Manaus, targeting a group suspected of using the Eduardo Gomes International Airport's cargo terminal for drug trafficking.

On Wednesday, the Brazilian Federal Police initiated Operation Rastreio in Manaus, focusing on a group believed to be utilizing the cargo terminal of Eduardo Gomes International Airport for the illicit transportation of drugs. This operation is part of a broader effort, known as the Integrated Forces to Combat Organized Crime (FICCO), which brings together various public security agencies including civil, military, and penal police, as well as the Federal Highway Police and state secretaries, all coordinated by the Federal Police.

During this operation, four search and seizure warrants and four preventive arrest warrants were executed across different locations in the capital, Manaus. The overall effort in the country resulted in 181 search and seizure warrants and 112 arrest warrants being carried out nationwide, illustrating the extensive scale of law enforcement actions against organized crime in Brazil.

Since the beginning of 2025 alone, the Federal Police and FICCOs have conducted a remarkable 246 operations, leading to over 2,000 search and seizure warrants being executed. This specific operation draws attention to the ongoing challenges posed by drug trafficking in Brazil, particularly in utilizing critical infrastructure such as airports for criminal activities, thereby reflecting the government's commitment to countering narcotics trafficking and organized crime.
