Federal Police targets group suspected of large-scale drug trafficking in Greater São Luís; R$ 297 million blocked

The Brazilian Federal Police has launched an operation targeting a group suspected of trafficking significant amounts of cocaine and crack in Greater São Luís, with R$ 297 million blocked in assets.

On Wednesday, October 18, the Federal Police of Brazil initiated a major operation aimed at dismantling a suspected drug trafficking organization operating in the Greater São Luís area of Maranhão. This operation involved 15 states and focused on drug and arms trafficking, as well as the activities of criminal factions. In Maranhão, the authorities targeted a group believed to be trafficking cocaine and crack on a large scale and laundering money through shell companies.

The operation involved the execution of 30 search and seizure warrants and 7 temporary arrest warrants linked to the investigation. Additionally, there were legal orders issued in Ceará and Espírito Santo. Authorities announced that R$ 297 million worth of assets, including real estate, luxury vehicles, heavy machinery, and a firearm, were blocked as part of the operation, showcasing the scale of the illicit activities and the efforts to combat organized crime in the region.

According to the Federal Police, the targeted group was responsible for supplying drugs to sales points throughout the Metropolitan Region of São Luís and was involved in moving large sums of money to conceal their illicit wealth. The operation is a significant effort in the ongoing battle against organized crime in Brazil, particularly concerning drug trafficking and its socio-economic impacts in urban areas.
