Federal Police launches operation against drug trafficking and money laundering in Manaus and in the interior of Amazonas
Seven people were arrested during Operation Espúrio Legacy, targeting drug trafficking and money laundering schemes in Amazonas.
On Tuesday, the Brazilian Federal Police launched Operation Espúrio Legacy, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals as part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking and money laundering in Amazonas. This operation involved the execution of 11 search and seizure warrants in several locations, including Manaus, Itacoatiara, and Maués. The action highlights the Federal Police's focus on dismantling organized crime networks in the region, particularly those related to the narcotics trade.
The current operation is a continuation of previous efforts made earlier this year, such as Operation Linhagem and Operation Ruptura, which similarly targeted criminal connections in the state. During Operation Ruptura, for example, five suspects were also arrested on similar charges, indicating a concerted effort by authorities to address the pervasive issue of drug-related crimes in Amazonas. The police reported that the suspects have been identified to play various roles within the organized crime structure, complicating the illegal drug supply chain.
As these investigations unfold, new criminal connections have been uncovered, revealing a sophisticated network responsible for supplying and redistributing illegal narcotics both in the capital, Manaus, and in surrounding municipalities. The individuals arrested will remain in detention pending legal proceedings, serving as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against drug-related crime in Brazil and the commitment of law enforcement to combat these serious offenses across the region.
