Latest news on the Nevėžis River, which has been troubling the Kėdainiai region
The water level of the Nevėžis River is dropping, indicating positive trends for the Kėdainiai region's flood concerns.
Jonas Švedas, a civil safety specialist of the Kėdainiai district municipality, has confirmed that the situation concerning the Nevėžis River has improved. As of this morning, the water level has dropped by 5 centimeters over the past 24 hours. This is a significant change from yesterday when the water levels were still high. The tranquility in the Kėdainiai area is largely dependent on the upstream conditions of the river, which show positive trends observed by hydrologists monitoring the measuring stations in the Panevėžys and Anykščiai districts.
The monitoring data indicates that the water level in the Nevėžis River has been declining for several days now, suggesting a stabilized situation in Panevėžys where the water is no longer rising. Jonas Švedas emphasized that no sudden negative changes are expected, as the forecasts remain positive. He noted that water levels at the associated dams in neighboring regions are gently being lowered, which minimizes the risk of sudden discharge. This vigilant monitoring and management imply that the risks associated with the flooding are under control and being handled cooperatively.
Importantly, Švedas stated that the threats from ice jams are no longer a concern. The water management's effectiveness reflects a collaborative effort among authorities, ensuring safety for residents in the Kėdainiai region as they navigate through this environmental challenge.
